Today I am going to discuss the importance of hobbies. I think it is very important to have something that you do just to make you happy. Something that is just ‘me time’. I feel that it is key to keeping you happy and stress-free.
My hobbies are the following, I do not do these all the time. I can go months before doing one of these, but they are the hobbies I always go back to
Number 1 – Cross stitch.
Cross stitch is a super easy craft to take up, it’s cheap to set up. I set up my thread stash by looking on ebay for destashes, I also got aida fabric this way. Aida fabric is the pre-holed fabric that makes it super easy to cross stitch. I usually go for 14count aida as this is the most simple I find. The number just relates to how big and far the holes on the fabric are.
Patterns, I used to buy a cross stitch magazine that would give me multiple patterns to do. They were varying in difficulty, which meant I could see how my skills were coming along. Etsy is also a really good place to get patterns, as you can get more pop culture reference ones there.
Number 2 – Scrapbooking/Sort of
I say sort of, as its a mixture of scrapbooking/memory keeping/journalling. I don’t do the scrapbooking 12×12 paper layouts where you layer up paper and embellishments etc. I tend to mix sizes and even the books I do it in. I will upload a flip through of some of my old books.
I like to use some pictures and document what happened that day. Sometimes I like to try draw something or even just write. Now I am still finding my footing with this craft as its very much one that you can’t do anything wrong. It’s about what suits you and as long you have fun doing it thats all that matters.
Number 3 – Puzzles
Puzzles are a great way of taking your mind everything going on and just taking some time for you.
Sudoku, Word-searches are my favourite to do on paper. I also like games like Solitaire and mahjongg. Its good to give your mind a challenge, they are also great for passing time while travelling. I like to try cross-words every so often by I’m usually pretty bad at them.
Number 4 – Colouring in
This is such a good hobby for sitting with some music on, cup of tea on the table and just colour away. I find that the ones with lots of little details to colour keep me more focused. Only just the other day, I had soo much on my mind and lots to do, that I couldn’t motivate myself to do anything. I flipped to the back of my erin condren which in the new ones have some colouring pages and I put my headphones and coloured in. I didnt get much coloured in the hour I was doing it, but that didn’t matter to me. It helped me de-stress and I took some time just for me.
I think we all need to schedule even 30mins a day just to do something for ourselves. Whether that be sit with a cup of tea, read some book, one of the hobbies above or even just a little walk. It’s important we look after ourselves.
I hope you enjoyed my hobby suggestions. Leave a comment if you do any of the above or if you can suggest something for me to try.
Until next time
